Ten arrested on drug charges in IllinoisMASON CITY, Illinois -- Following indictments by the Mason County, Illinois grand jury, Circuit Judge Thomas Brownfield handed down warrants resulting in the arrest Wednesday morning of 10 people on various drug-related charges.
Some cases appear related, according to Mason County, Illinois States Attorney Judith Lozier.
"In Mason County there have been ongoing investigations of meth labs and other drug offenders," Lozier said Wednesday. "Those investigations have culminated in the arrests made today."
Lozier said several drug-related arrests in the county in the past nine months played a part in the investigation. Most of the charges Wednesday were connected with production or possession of methamphetamine.
Mason County, Illinois Sheriff Wayne Youell said most of the arrests Wednesday were made at various locations within the county. The Central Illinois Enforcement Group made the investigation and arrests, with the assistance of Mason City, Illinois and Peoria, Illinois Police departments.
The CIEG task force includes members of the Havana Police, Illinois Department, Mason County, Illinois Sheriff's Department, Lincoln Police, Illinois Department, Logan County, Illinois Sheriff's Department, Morgan County, Illinois Sheriff's Department, Pana, Illinois Police Department, Jacksonville, Illinois Police Department and the Illinois State Police.
Lozier will prosecute the cases with the assistance of Delores Hurley, assistant attorney general of the Illinois Statewide Grand Jury Bureau.
Nine of the 10 alleged offenders are being held in Mason County Jail.
Floyd A. Beard, 56, of Lincoln, was released in Logan County on $50,000 bond. He is charged with unlawful possession of 15 to 100 grams of methamphetamine.
Seven individuals face conspiracy charges, a Class X felony.
Kelly A. Taylor, 40, of Havana, was arrested for unlawful calculated criminal drug conspiracy. Of the 10, Taylor faces the stiffest penalties if convicted. She could serve six to 30 years in prison. Her bond was set at $200,000, as was the bond of James Nichols, 23, of Pekin.
James Nichols; James L. Thomas, 38, Brian K. Harris, 37, and Tabitha Nichols, 21, all of Havana; and Donna M. Danley, 36, of Mason City, are accused of unlawful criminal drug conspiracy.
James Nichols and Donna Danley also face one and two counts of unlawful possession of methamphetamine manufacturing chemicals.
Tabitha Nichols was also arrested for permitting the unlawful use of a building. Thomas' bond was set at $150,000; the bond for Harris, Donna Danley and Tabitha Nichols was set at $100,000.
Jonathan W. Hinkle, 19, of New Holland, was arrested for unlawful possession of methamphetamine manufacturing chemicals and unlawful transportation of anhydrous ammonia.
Hinkle's bond is $35,000. John Michael Danley, 40, of Mason City was charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine, less than 15 grams, with bond set at $25,000.
Harold M. Kaebel, Jr., 21, of Havana is accused of unlawful possession with intent to deliver cannabis, 30 to 500 grams, and his bond was set at $30,000.
In addition, Shawn Easley, of Havana, was arrested by the Bartonville Police Department, according to Master Sgt. Jack Hageman, the squad supervisor of the task force with the Illinois State Police. However, information on his age and what he was arrested for was not available by press time.
"The investigation is continuing and we hope further arrests will be made," Lozier said. She asked that people with information on drug-related activities contact their local police department. Drug Rehab by County
